| Job Description: A new opportunity (January 30, 2010) is available for a recent PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology who possesses good interpersonal and patient relationship skills and seeks specialty training in neurorehabilitation intervention skills, a flexible and utilitarian approach to rehabilitation, experience in treatment of comorbid disorders and honing of research and writing skills. Post doctoral specialty training in specialized rehabilitation psychology / neuropsychology service delivery is being reinstituted at the Tree of Life, an expanding supported living and transitional rehabilitation residential treatment center. http://www.tree-of-life.com/ Tree of Life is a continuum of Care Center of Excellence in Post Acute Neurorehabilitation. Opportunities for group, family, day patient and additional outpatient treatment services are available in a strongly treatment oriented continuum of care service network. • Candidates will be registered for supervision as a resident in Psychology working toward licensure in Virginia. • Resident will receive specialized training in provision of integrated behavioral, personality, psychoemotional, neurobehavioral and neuropsychological evaluations and treatments in functional and practically based individual, group, family and consultative interventions. Selective psychophysiologic (central and peripheral biofeedback and neuromodulatory stimulation) interventions are sometimes integrated into individualized treatment programs utilizing an integrated disease state management model. • Primary patient population includes adults with Traumatic or Acquired Brain Injury, with some comorbid musculoskeletal, pain, spinal, personality, mood and anxiety and adjustment disorders. • Treatment focus is uniquely biopsychosocial, holistic, integrated and client centered and relies upon a synthetic Holistic Habit and Self Retraining (HHSR) neurorehabilitation paradigm (model and methodology; see Martelli, Zasler and Nicholson, 2007 for a brief review of an earlier, less developed iteration): http://villamartelli.com/HHR_NR_2008%20text.pdf • Resident will participate in continued development and refinement of the HHSR neurorehabilitation model/methodology along with associated publications and a treatment manual intended to become a center of excellence guide for post acute neurorehabilitation. • Neuropsychotherapeutic services utilize unique multimedia strategies and formats for integrated individual and group skills training • TOL Services are Team oriented and interdisciplinary and include integrated Neuropsychotherapeutic, Psychosocial, Behavioral, Cognitive Rehabilitation, Neuro/psychophysiologic and Psychopharmacologic interventions. • Resident will attend two hours per week of individual supervision, a weekly one hour Neurobehavioral Rounds, a weekly to biweekly two hour Medical Rounds and weekly one hour Rehabilitation Neuropsychology Rounds and a weekly one hour Readings/Psychophysiology & Behavioral Medicine Lab/Research rounds. • Training opportunities are provided in research and writing and will include coauthorship on ongoing writing and indirect or direct research projects under the mentorship of Dr.’s Martelli and Zasler (see links below) • One half day per week of protected research and writing time is provided. Areas of interest at Tree of Life relate primarily to Brain Injury Rehabilitation; available research and writing areas are sampled in the list of representative publications. The Resident will also be involved in preparing posters and papers and writing projects relating to the development of innovative HHSR treatment protocols that are an integral component of Tree of Life Neurorehabilitation services. Additional research and writing experiences will include professional journal article reviews, especially in the Journals co-edited by Dr. Zasler (i.e., Brain Injury; Neurorehabilitation); book reviews will also be available. • Opportunities for forensic neuropsychological assessment in an outpatient clinic will be available to the suitable resident in the 2nd year or training • First-year stipends are $37,740 and second-year stipends are $42,765. The decision to continue the Residency for a second year is finalized in the 8th month of the Residency based upon adequate progress in the program. Reimbursement for up to $1,000 of moving expenses for initial relocation is available. Health insurance, fifteen vacation days and eight holidays are provided in the same plan and at the same level available to all Tree of Life professional employees. Workshop/conference attendance is also available. • Candidate who completes this fellowship will be considered for employment as a Rehabilitation Psychologist / Neuropsychologist at Tree of Life.
